Boxing Rules and Importance of Referee
The referee is a most important person in this sport. He takes care of all the rules and closely observes whether boxers are following them correctly. It is difficult to imagine a proper game without him. Therefore, it is important to know his role.

Main Duty of the Referee
• Before the fight starts, give proper directions to boxers.
• When any of the fighters is down, take decision to stop the game.
• Start the game after each round.
• Check the fouls and give warnings.
• If someone is not following the guidelines, he has rights to deduct points.
• Give signal to stop the round.
• Decide to stop the game, when fighter’s health is not well.
• In the beginning, referees used to judge the winner. But nowadays, honorable judges take this decision.
The main duty of referee is to check right guidelines followed by the boxers. He has all the rights to disqualify any of the boxers. Outside the box, judges calculate the points. There are 5 judges in amateur fights. However, in professional fights, you can find only 2-3 judges.
The person who rings the bell at the beginning and end of the play is known as timekeeper. Physiotherapists are also there to maintain the health of boxers during play.
Whenever a fighter breaks any rule it is called as foul. That time referee deducts defaulter’s some points. If he does not stop and make more fouls, referee disqualifies that boxer.

Do We Treat Our Cricket Team Right?
We celebrate when they win and we hang them when they lose. Do we treat our cricket team right? That is the problem with the public, some say. However, others feel it is well deserved.
In India, people embrace cricket and its stars with their hearts. Pride and happiness on winning enthuse us in their glory; dejection and anger fill us in their loss. This behaviour is rational except when the reaction is prolonged which is generally through endless discussions aired in the media involving the public attention in it.

In his glory, the star – or the team for that matter – is raised to cloud nine; in his failure they’re taken to task to the point of questioning their credibility!
But if its rational then why do not we scold ourselves or the person in question every time when we lose anything in life? Then we preach all the positive and motivational statements saying it all happens in life! Why this discrimination?
People are all gripped to the match from the beginning and suppose the team loses in the end, for sure they’ll be dejected. But so is the team! They don’t enjoy losing, do they? So why question and criticise them? They tried their best, didn’t they. And it also brings ‘talent’ and ‘luck’ into the frame. Some people crib even about match fixing, they swear and call players names!
Of course, arguing that this should never happen is of no use as in the spur of the moment it happens and is obvious, rational, normal. However, stretching it for over days or weeks is foolish. And this is generally seen in media discussions where the trial of the players is held. Obviously a player doesn’t play well for money; neither one plays bad intentionally.
What we must understand is that losing or winning doesn’t matter if the team has tried its best, especially in game like cricket. But when team loses because of carelessness of players – like when some cricketers were found drinking and partying on the night before the match which certainly affected their performance – then obviously they are to be blamed.
But creating a hype about a loss never helps. When a team is down, it needs support. It’s all in a game. Some win, some lose. But what matters is giving the best to help decide the outcome.
