KICKBOXING-Do FAQ
The program of martial arts at Thunder Kickboxing is suitable for children and adults, of all ages and levels of physical ability. All classes are open to all belt levels, but instructors ensure that each student receives personal attention and that exercises are tailored to the individual's needs and abilities.

WHAT IS KICKBOXING-DO? Literally, Kickboxing-Do means Way of the Kickboxer. More prosaically, it is Kenpo, Karate-Do, Boxing, and Oyama Karate.
Kickboxing-Do is an American Style of martial art that emphasizes discipline, respect, and personal growth, and it is famed for its fast and powerful kicks thus relating to founder of Kickboxing-Do Coach Eddie “Thunderkick” Monger.
HOW WILL I BENEFIT FROM KICKBOXING-DO? Studying at Thunder Kickboxing will improve your fitness, flexibility, balance, coordination, concentration and discipline. It will develop your self-confidence, making you more relaxed and less stressed. It will build your strength and stamina, while toning your body. But remember that martial arts provide more than just a workout. As students progress, they also develop their internal strength and power, working steadily towards physical, mental, and spiritual improvement.
WHAT IS KICKBOXING-DO? Kickboxing-Do is an informal modern martial art that combines the basics of boxing (hand techniques and movement) with the powerful kicks of Karate-Do and Oyama Karate, as well as, the circler movements of Kenpo. Kickboxing-Do techniques are practical and useful, and each class is a full-body workout.
ARE THE CLASSES SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS? Our program includes one scheduled intro session with detailed instruction on the correct mechanics of each of the basic punching and kicking techniques. First-time students are recommended to do 1-3 intro sessions, which is $10. Kickboxing-Do classes, as an Assistant Instructor is available during each of these classes to work with them.
HOW MANY CLASSES ARE THERE? We offer 22 Kickboxing-Do classes per week - see the class schedule for details. Note that the Boxing Classes are Tues and Thurs at 5:30pm and classes are open to students of all levels. Kids classes Mon-Thurs from 4:00pm-4:45 pm, and Mon/Wed are Kids Kickboxing-Do Karate Classes an Tues/Thurs are Kids Kickboxing-Do Classes.
DO YOU TEACH AEROBIC KICKBOXING? No, it's not aerobic Kickboxing, but it's not Muay Thai either. You can expect to learn American Kickboxing, with a heavy emphasis on boxing and hand skills. Expect plenty of power punching and kicking, and some contact drills in the more advanced classes, while getting a highly enjoyable and very physical workout.
WHAT ARE KICKBOXING-DO CLASSES LIKE? A typical class consists of two or three rounds of jumping rope to warm up, followed by a couple of rounds of shadow boxing and a series of stretches. We often do calisthenics and heavy bag work, and then spend time on partner drills, which may involve using focus mitts, blaster pads and/or kicking shields. We usually finish with more calisthenics, abs and pushups. It's a great way to spend an hour.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? An intro Kickboxing-Do class, with a free pair of Ringside handwraps, costs only $10.00 cash. If you would like to sign up for a membership, Kickboxing-Do costs between $21.25 and $25 per week (call or email for more details). With all of our memberships you can attend as many classes each week as you wish, and can also use the school facilities whenever we are open. Note also that we do not charge any additional sign-up fees!
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED? You should wear sweats or shorts, and a tee shirt. You can work out barefoot, or wear martial arts or wrestling shoes (No Street Shoes). To be fully equipped, you will need hand wraps, gloves, a jump rope and a bottle of water - all of which we offer for sale.
